All About Letterpress Consultation…

Why Consultation?…

Letterpress printing is a classic print medium which is somewhat rare these days due to technological advances in standard printing. Although rare, its elegant style simply cannot be matched by modern techniques. Importantly, because it is unfamiliar to most people, consultation with an expert is recommended to ensure that a print job matches the customer's intentions.

Consultation with an expert will help avoid expensive, time consuming errors. The end result of your commitment of ink to paper will benefit greatly by reducing the likelihood of an unexpected, and even undesirable look. The general idea of consultation is to facilitate communication of what you desire in the end, to the printer, such that you will receive what you desire. Some of the topics for discussion in a consultation session would include those areas most critical to your job: Paper, Design, Color, Size, Edge Effect, Impression Depth, Scores (or folds), Die-cutting, Custom Envelopes, Mixed Media, Appeal, Scheduling, Payment and so on.

How It Works…

Consultation is offered by Eddens Letterpress as a Fee for Service Session. The content and topics discussed in a typical session would include those most vital to the point in progress of your particular job.
First, information will be gathered pertaining to what the current desire is regarding the end result. What are the current ideas, does a design exist, if a design exists--is it on a napkin or a professional page layout file, how far along is the paper selection process, is size known, quantity known, is there a date associated with the printing?
Second, any design, paper selected, font examples, other printed examples, graphic icons/images brought to the session will be examined.
Third, the subjective and objective information gathered in the first two steps will be assessed and evaluated with a view towards the final desired result. An assessment of how far along your project is will be made, along with how much remains to be completed.
Fourth and final phase of a consultation session includes formulation of a plan. The Plan will outline specifically what needs to be accomplished from that point on (based on the progress assessment of the first three steps of consultation). The Plan phase will also determine which particular aspects of what has already been done (and those anticipated to be done) may be abandoned, or developed further. Resources for further information and suppliers is also given as needed during final planning. And, if enough information is known, a firm price estimate can be provided.

To Schedule a Session…

Consultation Sessions are scheduled to last one hour and are held in New York City (and some surrounding areas) usually at a mutual location. The fee for consultation service is $125.00 for one hour payable either immediately prior to the session by cash only or in advance by PayPal. The session fee is deducted from the print fee if your request goes to print with Eddens Letterpress.
A session can be scheduled by email.
